In the beginning, I wanted to create a piece that would reflect the violence and anguish that exists in the world and trying to find peace amongst the violence through movement. I wanted to reflect artwork, The Flower Thrower by Banksy through movement by using the contrast that is used in the artwork. For example, having shifts of different dynamics. I think this has also helped to create an unsettling tone to the piece as it shifts often, helping to create an atmosphere of war and the unsettling nature that it brings. Through the creative process, I have been going back to these initial thoughts throughout the process, so the piece is well-rounded.
I think in future, I will focus more on the emotions that are brought out from the artwork and transfer them into my piece, instead of focusing on the dynamic contrast. This would overall help to reflect the more heartbreak and trauma that can come from war.
Now I am at the end of this process, I have found the importance of referring back to the choreographic intention, as it can help to stay on track with the choreographic devices of the piece. I think one thing I am considering now that the process is over is that I was focused more on the movement of my piece, instead of using the music to help, as I specifically chose that music to reflect the contrast of violence and peace.
From this process, I have learnt how it's important to carefully consider movement material and think about how each movement can tell a story and reflect a certain feeling instead of movement that means nothing. I have found that I wasn't tempted to rush the process, but each week consider different ways of approaching the creative process.
How would using the music more have impacted the final version of your piece?
ReplyDeleteI think that by using the music more to help create movement, it could've enabled me to complement the dynamic that changes in music with the movement to create a more impactful piece. I would've changed the order of my process, and instead listen to the emotions the music brings and incorporating them, and using different resources to create movement rather than just using my stimulus.
