Personal Development Reflection (8)
At the moment, I have created all my movement material so that I can start cleaning my piece. I'm going to focus timings, knowing when to do movements faster or slower so they go with the music. This is significant as it can help to add to the tension of my piece, with the growing efforts of finding peace amongst violence. I have researched in previous blogs about how Christopher Bruce 'works closely with the music in order to help portray the stimulus'. That is why its important to focus on specific timings, to overall match the dynamic and mood of my music and piece. In previous research, I found that 'music can help to highlight the social issues that occur and can help to reflect that in a piece'. (Foyer, 2015).
I have taken into consideration the different factors of choreography and carried out research to look deeper into them. I looked at the creation of different pieces choreographed by my chosen practitioner, and found how Christopher Bruce, 'complements the grounded levels'. He believes its important to "let the dance do it.” (the Guardian, 2020) when acting through dance. This research, has impacted the way I perform my movement, and has created a different perspective on how movement can tell a story.
When I first started my choreography, a challenge for me was knowing how I can find movement to help portray my stimulus in the right way. However, through my research, I was able to see how using contrast can impact the piece. I have used contrast between the music and the movement style to help reflect my stimulus as the painting includes a contrast of colour and meaning. From integrating research into choreography, I have built a piece that reflects the mood created in my stimulus. I've made sections which clearly show anguish, and sections which show contrast, highlighting the fight for peace amongst violence.
