Understanding And Creating Movement (1)
I have learnt about the importance of using stimuli as a strong base of inspiration in order to create and develop movement. I know to bring a piece to life by using different dynamics, and having an understanding of the history and context of the stimulus. This has enabled me to reflect deeper on the movement and how that can portray the message of the stimulus. I have also learnt about other ways of creating movement, for example using key words, and looking at images. For example, looking at words like "fast" or "grow", and finding spatial features and dynamics that fit with the ideas generated from those words. This is the same for photographs. Studying the lighting, camera angle etc of them, in order to find those specific movements that reflect the mood or tone of the image.
By using what I have learnt, it helps me to have a more unique approach to finding movement. For example, I researched the graffiti art, "Flower Bomb" by Banksy and found that it was created in order to reflect wars and the violence, "The facial expression and the mans posture in the mural tellingly suggests that there is a violent intent." (publicdelivery.org,n.d.). This has made the creation process easier as the range of movement is less broad, so I can create movements that highlight my stimulus. This also means the movement can strongly display the emotion shown through the stimulus. By using words or phrases, it has helped me to learn about he importance of magnifying details of the words in order to create movement that best reflects the message of them.

By looking more into depth at my stimulus, and what I've learnt about the creating process, I am able to use improvisation techniques. Focusing on specific elements of the stimulus, I can use a wide range of different movements to help portray them, taking movements I like and developing them into a phrase. Improvisation also helps in the creation process as I can create different moods, by using dynamics and tones to portray my stimulus.
ReplyDeleteHowever, using improvisation was challenging, specifically not knowing where or how to start. I overcame this by tyring not to think too much about what I was doing, as that can make it harder to create movement. I think its important to see what naturally comes to you through movement, and with help of words and music to give you a direction to take.
